LIFE LESSONS
These are my anecdotal “life lessons” and I feel I am someone who still has a lot to learn about life! They are not written in chronological order or order of importance. I am simply writing as I remember so come with me on this journey! Maybe you will learn something. Perhaps you will laugh! In the very least, we will have spent a little time together.
A Goose’s Hallowe’en
Rob was a big fan of decorating for Hallowe’en. Our rock goose on the front step was lucky enough to don the Jason Voorhees mask from the Friday the 13th films. I am not sure if it was ever particularly scary for any of the people who came trick or treating but I can’t say that…
The Black Ribbon
I recently started taking classes and competing in Nosework Trials with my 3 year old Boxer. We had a trial this past weekend and I definitely learned more than how to recognize his “tell”. This weekend’s lessons were both more difficult to swallow and more helpful to both of us at the same time. We…
NOT so Super BOWL
I’m not a huge football fan but I do like the Super Bowl. Maybe it’s just for the halftime show. Maybe the snacks. Maybe just spending the afternoon and evening with friends. This year we went to a great Super Bowl party. A few friends. A couple of dogs. Super Bowl commercial Bingo. A football…
I love my job
This is actually more of a PSA than a regular blog post. It is for all of the school age parents out there who have kids in public school. Be sure to ask them about their day when they (or you) get home. Not only what did THEY do that day but, also, what did…
No Parking
I am NOT a car aficionado, as anyone who knows me knows – I hung on to my Equinox forever. I was, however, PISSED today when I came out to the parking lot at the end of a day of dealing with ridiculous behaviour from start to finish only to realize…. someone had keyed my…
Happy Halloween
I’m not sure what is up with my eye but I woke up like this on Monday. At least it’s a good way to figure out if your students are actually making eye contact with you or if they are day dreaming all through class. I walked into one class and one student, who normally…
A shitty start to the day!
** this was written while I was still working but was not published as there were some issues with trolls. Hopefully they have forgotten about me and I am safe to publish now. There are definitely some days when you should just STAY IN BED. Or, if you get up and realize it is going…
A teachable moment – where I am the one learning!
WOW! What a day today! I started the day, as I do every work day, doing yard duty at school. My “job”, as per Public Health regulations, is to make sure that each class stays in their own area on the tarmac and school yard and that students remain with their classmates / in their…
Old as Dirt
I am 52 years old. To young to live in a retirement community or collect CPP. Old enough to drink, vote, buy a house and work full time. And, as I am learning, DEFINITELY TOO OLD to teach in 2021. Covid has not helped but we continue to lower our academic standards to such a…
Don’t Smile
I went to the doctor recently and his receptionist noticed that my Health card had expired the week before. Oops. I knew that it had to be renewed every five years but it had completely fallen off the radar. I had no idea when my five years started / ended. This also meant that I…
