I told you so!

You know how when you become a parent, your parent watches very closely for either “I told you so” or “It serves you right” moments when their adorable grandchildren give you exactly what you deserve and they had to wait decades for it to happen? When it does happen, I imagine that it must be pretty sweet!

When Taylor was about 7, my mother’s wait was over! And my own personal onslaught of “I told you so” moments was just beginning.

Morning at our house was never my favourite time of the day! NONE of the four of us are really morning people. Even now, we go about our own things, get them done but without a lot of conversation or singing of show tunes before we leave for school or work or wherever we are going.

This particular day, many years ago, was no exception.

Teeth had been brushed, lunches made and packed into backpacks, homework safely added to the front pocket.

Dogs had gone out for a pee and were ready to snuggle in for a quiet kid-free day.

Back door was locked.

Jackets on.

Hair brushed.

My bags packed with everything that I needed for the day.

We were all lined up at the door, ready to load in to the car to head to daycare. I opened up the garage door only to realize it was raining.

CRAP!

Keep in mind, when I planned my departure time in the morning, I never accounted for even an extra second. I would rather push SNOOZE one extra time than have 5 minutes for unexpected events.

But now, I had to look for my umbrella which was, of course, not where it belonged!

I turned to my sweet (?), rosy cheeked daughter in her cute little spring coat with her missing front teeth and said, “Hey Tay, where is my umbrella?”

Her response:

Hmmmm… I am not sure, mom. Whose umbrella is it?

Then she just looked at me, completely stone faced. I no longer saw a seven year old looking back at me but, instead my mother ~ and I am pretty sure she was sticking out her tongue!

Lesson learned? HANG IN THERE! I have a grand daughter now too and I KNOW there will be lots of moments when she either sounds just like her mother or when Taylor gets exactly what she deserves!

I am just like you! A regular woman who went to work Monday to Friday, came home and did all that stuff that we all do - raised my kids, played with my dogs, worked around the house and spent time with my husband. Like most of us, I feel like I took that relationship for granted. I knew I was lucky but I didn't know HOW lucky - until January 26, 2021. The day that Rob passed away. As a way to work through this really crappy, unfair time, I thought I would start a blog. Not to whine and complain but to document those times AND the good ones! Because there ARE good times as well!
