I mentioned before that I have a fused ankle, so, something as simple as shoes has become an issue. I have to have a shoe that has a slight wedge from the heel to the middle of my foot. So flip flops are a hard NO! Even the foot bed on my beloved Birkenstocks are not good enough.
However, I was lucky enough to find a cobbler – yes, in 2021, not in 1843, who could add a wedge to my Birks. He did a pair that I had several years ago and I got a new pair so took them in to get the wedge added to them as well. He couldn’t remember exactly what he had done the first time so he asked my to bring the original pair in.
When I did he looked at the bottom of my shoe and went into a bit of a PSA about how it is NOT a good idea to wear open-toed sandals on a motorcycle. I literally looked behind me to see if there was someone else in the store, perhaps standing behind me, that did come in on their Harley!!
Nope!
I was alone in the store. I must have had a confused look on my face but, in all fairness, he couldn’t possibly know that I am clumsy enough to shift my weight improperly when walking – forget about on a motorcycle!
I asked why he was telling me about safety expectations on a motorcycle and he turned over my shoe…
He assumed that the indent across the middle of the sole was from the footrest on the back of a motorcycle. Again – hard no! But then we were both confused about what would make that mark on both shoes in the same spot.

Are you thinking about it?

It was from leaning my shoes on the fire pit when we were camping! Clearly I spent a lot of time on my ass with my feet up! (Thank you, Rob, for doing absolutely everything while we camped!)
So we transitioned from motorcycle safety to fire safety! But when I look at those shoes, I must agree!
Lesson learned? Perhaps my feet were too close to the open flame!
1843 cobbler. bahahahaaa
