Sewer Barbie

I am lucky enough to still have a lot of the friends that I went to public school with – all the way back to Kindergarten.

One particular friend, Tricia, and I used to live on the same street so we walked to and from school together and played together after school and on weekends. This memory is shared with, and dedicated to, her!

We were walking down the street one day and Tricia took my Barbie doll and threw her down the sewer grate!

There was NO GETTING HER OUT.

The beginning of this tale is not the funny part. It is what happened more recently.

I had ordered jewellery from Tricia’s Green Bijou boutique and was waiting to receive it in the mail.

I was excited to go to the Post Office one day and find a box from her waiting for me.

I tore the brown Kraft paper off of the outer layer to see a recycled Aritizia box. On it, in her handwriting, was written:

Don’t get too excited. It’s not your necklace!”

Confused, and, not gonna lie, a little disappointed, I carefully took the lid off of the box and pulled back the tissue paper.

What I found made me actually LAUGH OUT LOUD, which does not often happen.

Inside of the box was a Barbie to replace the one put down the sewer more than four decades ago!

Isn’t she beautiful?

Notice the details added to this beauty! She has tattoos, nipple piercings, a tramp stamp and needs a bikini wax job in a big way! Also looks like perhaps she did NOT take off her makeup from last night!

She could, in fact, be the original Sewer Barbie!

The scary/weird/interesting part is that Trish doesn’t have any kids so where did Sewer Barbie come from?

She actually placed an ad on Facebook Marketplace asking if anyone had any old Barbies that they didn’t want any more. Obviously someone did. Really, it isn’t hard to imagine not wanting this one in your doll rotation any more!! She went and picked up the Barbie to continue on with her plan for world’s best replacement gift.

I have her on the bookshelf in my office. She may be scary and ugly but MAN…. she is a conversation starter FOR SURE!

Lesson learned? Cherish your old friends – often, they are the best ones! 😉 And… it is important to surround yourself with people who have the same sense of humour as you!

I am just like you! A regular woman who went to work Monday to Friday, came home and did all that stuff that we all do - raised my kids, played with my dogs, worked around the house and spent time with my husband. Like most of us, I feel like I took that relationship for granted. I knew I was lucky but I didn't know HOW lucky - until January 26, 2021. The day that Rob passed away. As a way to work through this really crappy, unfair time, I thought I would start a blog. Not to whine and complain but to document those times AND the good ones! Because there ARE good times as well!
